STARFIELD: Release Date and Game Details

Starfield will release on September 6, 2023. With Sony, Activision, and now Microsoft raising the standard game price to $70 USD, gaming seems determined to get more expensive. Starfield will also cost $70, maintaining this price as a new normal, and not a temporary spike. Starfield has been confirmed as a day one addition to Game Pass.

Starfield story and setting

The game’s narrative and setting have been intriguingly described as a fusion of “Skyrim in space” and “NASA-punk,” drawing inspiration from iconic series like Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica. If you are a fan of Mass Effect, The Outer Worlds, Starfield promises to be right up your alley. The core story of Starfield remains shrouded in secrecy, but Bethesda has teased some details.

The events take place in the year 2330, two decades after a brutal Colony War between the dominant factions of The Settled Systems – the United Colonies and Freestar Collective. As a member of Constellation, an organization of space explorers, players must navigate the aftermath of this devastating conflict, with their choices shaping the course of the game. Notably, Bethesda has confirmed that the main quest in Starfield will surpass even the grand scale of Skyrim and Fallout 4.

Will Starfield be open-world?

While not officially labeled as an “open-world” game, Starfield offers seamless navigation within its expansive universe, with loading screens only separating individual planets. Over 1,000 planets are ready for exploration on Starfield’s map, many of which are procedurally generated. The game promises an abundance of biome variety, with each planet’s unique lighting adding to the immersive experience. Players can look forward to engaging in procedural side-quests across these planets, although the central storyline and additional side-quests are likely to take place on handcrafted worlds, adding depth and diversity to the gameplay.

There will be ne multiplayer

Unlike some of Bethesda’s previous titles, Starfield will focus solely on single-player gameplay, forgoing any multiplayer features. The spotlight is on the player’s solitary journey of discovery and adventure.

Starfield’s character creation

Starfield’s character creation system introduces a wealth of options, allowing players to customize their space explorer down to the smallest detail. From choosing body shapes, skin tones, and hairstyles to selecting backgrounds like combat medic, bouncer, professor, or homesteader – each with associated starting skills – players have the freedom to design their ideal character, immersing themselves fully in the game’s universe.

How long will it take to complete Starfield?

The exact duration of Starfield’s main plotline has not been disclosed, but with references to numerous side-quests and branching storylines, alongside an in-depth crafting system for personalized weapon and base customization, the game promises substantial replayability over an extended period. Todd Howard, the game’s director, has drawn comparisons to Skyrim’s enduring popularity over the years, hinting at the potential for a captivating main story of approximately 30-40 hours, supplemented by over 100 hours of side quests, and an extensive 200+ hours for thorough exploration to achieve 100% completion.

Starfield factions

Factions play a significant role in Starfield, adding depth to the narrative with intriguing questlines. The primary faction is Constellation, a group of human explorers driven by a relentless pursuit of answers. According to Bethesda’s quest designer, Will Shen, the faction questlines in Starfield will be independently playable, allowing players to explore each faction’s story without locking themselves out of other paths, enhancing the game’s overall replayability.
