AMD Brings 3D V-Cache to Laptops

If you’re familiar with AMD’s Ryzen 7045 series designed for laptops, you’ll know that these chips share the exact same silicon as the desktop Ryzen 7000 CPUs, which are highly regarded as some of the best CPUs available. It was only a matter of time before AMD introduced mobile versions of its Ryzen 7000X3D series.

For the very first time, AMD is bringing its 3D-V cache technology, previously limited to desktop processors, to laptops through a brand new chip. The Ryzen 9 7945HX3D will debut exclusively in the upcoming Asus laptop, the ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D, scheduled to be released on Aug. 22.

3D V-Cache is amazing for laptops

At its core, 3D V-Cache serves as a means for AMD to enhance CPU performance, but its capabilities extend far beyond that. The truly remarkable aspect of 3D V-Cache lies in its ability to significantly boost performance without substantially increasing power consumption. This feature becomes especially noteworthy in the case of laptops, which are often constrained by power limitations.

For AMD, the 7945HX3D’s performance superiority over the 7945HX is an impressive revelation. According to their claims, the 7945HX3D surpasses the 7945HX by 11% at 70 watts and an even more remarkable 23% at 40 watts. Such advancements make 3D V-Cache a game-changing technology for AMD’s processors.

Ryzen 9 7945HX3D is 15% faster than the AMD Ryzen 7945HX

The latest chip utilizes the existing 16-core Ryzen 9 7945HX processor while elevating the L3 cache significantly from 64MB to 144MB. This enhancement aims to bolster the CPU’s capacity for rendering frame rates by allowing it to store more instructions, thereby reducing the need for frequent data retrieval from the system memory.

As a result of the added cache, the processor’s gaming performance sees a noteworthy improvement, boasting an average increase of over 15% compared to the standard Ryzen 7945HX processor. AMD’s benchmarks demonstrate remarkable gains for the X3D chip, with frame rates in Cyberpunk 2077 experiencing a 48% surge. There are some exceptions, for example in the older game League of Legends there was 2% lower FPS.

AMD proudly claims that the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D stands as the world’s fastest mobile gaming processor, surpassing the AMD Ryzen 7945HX by an impressive average of over 15%.
