Sarajevo Film Festival 2023

The Sarajevo Film Festival stands out as a major and highly regarded film festival in Europe, particularly in Southeast Europe. It was founded in 1995 during the siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War, and has since attracted many international and local celebrities to the city every year.

The festival showcases films from various genres and countries, and organizes masterclasses, workshops, panels and awards. The Sarajevo Film Festival is a celebration of cinema, culture and resilience in the face of adversity.

The 29th Sarajevo Film Festival is scheduled from August 11 to 18, 2023. The festival will commence with the screening of “KISS THE FUTURE,” directed by Nenad Čičin-Šain, on August 11 as part of the Open Air program. The film can also be watched online.

For attendees in Sarajevo, tickets for the festival can be purchased at the Main Box Office (Bosnian Cultural Center, Branilaca Sarajeva 24) or online through the Sarajevo Film Festival’s website, www.sff.ba, and tickets.sff.ba.

Unique opportunity to learn from film professionals

The Sarajevo Film Festival Masterclasses program this year presents a unique chance to learn from experienced film professionals about diverse aspects of the industry, such as production, directing, screenwriting, and acting. These masterclasses will be held from August 13 to 17 in the Festival Center (Bosanski kulturni centar, Branilaca Sarajevo 24), featuring the following schedule:


• August 13, 10:00 am to 11:30 am: Mark Cousins
• August 14, 10:00 am to 11:30 am: Charlie Kaufman
• August 16, 10:00 am to 11:30 am: Lynne Ramsay
• August 17, 10:00 am to 11:30 am: Jessica Hausner

According to the official website, entry to the Masterclasses is free, with tickets available for collection online at tickets.sff.ba or at the Main Box Office of the Sarajevo Film Festival. Tickets for the Masterclasses are already available (limited) and must be collected at least half an hour before the start of the Masterclass.

Laynne Ramsay will receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo

Lynne Ramsay, the Scottish director, screenwriter, and producer, will be honored with the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo Award for her remarkable contributions to the art of film. The award will be followed by a screening of her directed film “You Were Never Really Here,” featuring Joaquin Phoenix.
